47 women killed on one day around the world because of their gender | BBC News

November 25, 2018 — News

On occasion of the November 25th International Day to Eliminate VAW, BBC Monitoring reported about women that died on one day in 2018. The original idea came from the BBC 100 Women: They wanted to find out more about the women behind the numbers and thus monitored press coverage of women killed by another person on 1 October 2018 around the world. Their regional specialists counted 47 women reported killed, apparently for gender-related reasons, in 21 different countries. Most of these killings are still being investigated.
