Risk Factors for Ethiopian Femicide

  • The female intimate partner willingly ending the relationship
  • Sexual jealousy
  • The female intimate partner reporting acts of intimate partner violence

(Edelstein, 2018)

Although literature on femicide focusing on violence committed against immigrant women from patriarchal societies entering modern ones offers general explanations of this phenomenon (Gal, 2003; Wallach, Weingram, & Avitan, 2010), other more specific questions can be raised: Are there unique risk factors and triggers among Ethiopian immigrants who have relocated from a patriarchal culture to a modern one that lead to their significantly higher rate of IPH?
