Executive Summary

Rashida Manjoo is a former Special Rapporteur on violence against women and its causes and consequences (2009-2015), and the former Parliamentary Commissioner of the Commission on Gender Equality.

She is a current Professor in the Department of Public Law at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Throughout her career, her work has largely focused on gender-motivated killings of women, with special attention to the interpersonal and institutional factors contributing to the normalization of violence against women. In 2014, Professor Manjoo was awarded the International Human Rights Award from the American Bar Association.
