Many countries have been turning their attention towards the issue of femicide in recent years. It has been recommended to adopt specialized responses to femicide that can be implemented into police forces and prosecution units. This would create a more specialized response to femicide. This article discusses court outcomes of male versus female homicide victims. Findings show that homicides with female victims typically apply harsher punishments to perpetrators, and intimate partner femicides and familial femicides are not punished as harshly compared to other homicides.
