Collective subjectivity in the feminist struggle against femicide in Turkey

Executive Summary

In this paper, Deniz Altuntaz brings awareness to the collective subjectivity within feminist activism in their struggle against femicide in Turkey. In particular, Altuntaz examines collective subjectivity as an intersectional feminist strategy wherein women from all different identities and backgrounds come together collectively to politicize and solve femicide. The paper also describes the inadequacy of the current data and legal regulations regarding femicide in Turkey and calls on the state to take measures to address femicide.

“I refer to the notion of collective subjectivity as a way in which people with different identities come together and struggle to solve a problem in a society. Historically, over the years women come together and form collective subjectivities in the struggle against violence against women, but in this thesis, I focus on that collective subjectivity within feminist activism has developed in the struggle against femicide”
