Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka the former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women. Under her leadership, UN Women significantly increased its influence within and outside the UN system, expanded its partnerships, achieved more focused impact at scale, and more than doubled in size and revenue. She is a champion of women's rights and has devoted her career to social justice and gender equity. As of November 2021, she is the incoming chair of the Board of Directors at Women Deliver.
As the former Deputy President of South Africa (2005-2008) she dedicated herself to poverty alleviation with a focus on women's economic engagement. Earlier in her career, Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka was an anti-apartheid activist and, from 1994-1996, was a Member of Parliament as part of South Africa's first democratic government.
