The National Plan for Combatting Gender-Based Violence and Femicide in South Africa

Executive Summary

The South African government continues to fight against the gender based violence and femicide which continues to plague their country. On May 24th, 2024, the government signed the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide bill into legislation. This pivotal change is necessary for ensuring the safety, protection and well-being of women and children. Having this in legislation come into action will help protect those experiencing abuse and violence. This legislation has an active council which seeks to provide strategic leadership through creating six pillars to achieve their goals over the next 10 years. Directly addressing the 24 demands from all women in South Africa enables the council to provide a strategic approach with an end goal of having a safe space for women, children and LGBTQIA+ identifying individuals.
