German Official BKA Report on Domestic Violence 2023

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

According to the official report of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which is based on the Police Criminal Statistics (PKS), domestic violence in Germany has risen by 6,5 per cent between 2022 and 2023. In 2023, 70,5% of the 256.276 victims were females. In the area of intimate partner violence, 155 women were killed as opposed to 24 men.

Although the statistics do not specifically refer to femicide, i.e. gender-related killings, a trend becomes clearly visible: Domestic violence has been constantly on the rise since 2019, by a full 19,5 % until now.

Therefore, BKA and politicians alike call for better help services and prevention system.
