Podcast

Executive Summary

Dr. Kate Fitz-Gibbon, the director of the Monash Gender and Family Violence Prevention Centre at the University of Monash in Victoria, Australia, meets with Dr. Wendy O'Brien, Legal Officer on Violence against Children at UNODC, to discuss the importance of counting instances of femicide. The UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women called for the creation of "femicide watches", entities that keep track of femicides as they occur, as a way to gather data to be used to inform initiatives that seek to respond to and prevent femicide from occurring.
